Rose Trust conducts an assortment of activities and projects
that are purely welfare oriented.
Rehabilitation
Centre for widows
Rehabilitation Centre for widows, is probably our most important welfare
project. It's a well known fact that in India, especially in
the rural areas, widowhood comes along with a chain of
socio-economic and cultural problems. The sudden demise of her
husband calls for huge responsibilities and the woman is
suddenly helpless. In order to increase the family income,
ROSE supports about ten widows every year and conducts income
generation activities. ROSE sets up small businesses for these
women, thereby reducing their family burden and also enhancing
their entrepreneurial skills.
Leprosy prevention
After continuous research and community interaction Rose
Trust identified 62 leprosy patients. In order to make them
aware of the disease, ROSE has organized a three-day leprosy
prevention camp at Vandavasi. The Specialized medical officers
were from FRDP India. A few of the patients were sent to
District Head Hospitals.
Aids
Awareness-cum-Identification programme
Rose Trust organized a two-day awareness cum
identification programme at Nanjalingampetai. There were 72
women, men and young adults who benefited from this programme.
Two patients were identified and sent for testing and regular
medical check-up in the Government Hospital.
Tsunami Relief Services
Rose Trust collected relief materials such as rice,
clothes, medicines and potable water amounting to Rs.1, 40,
000 and distributed the same to the victims in their area for
over four days between 31st Dec. 2004 and 3rd Jan 2005.
Tsunami
Pscyho-Social Support Project
Rose Trust was one of several NGOs that participated for
nearly 18 months in this unique counselling project for
helping tsunami survivors recover from post-traumatic stress
disorder. The project is run by the Christian Counselling
Centre (CCC), Vellore and is considered to be one of the first
of its kind in the world for developing a model for
post-disaster psychological support services.
